Hakone (1 hr 30 min from Tokyo)
On the banks of Lake Ashi, the enchanting town of Hakone is renowned for its therapeutic onsen hot springs and breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji. Visit the iconic Hakone Shrine, take a Lake Ashi cruise, and stay in a traditional ryokan inn.
Another beautiful area to visit around Mt. Fuji is Kawaguchiko, which is about the same distance on the Fuji Excursion train direct from Shinjuku station.
Kamakura (1 hr from Tokyo)
Kamakura is a historic coastal town with ancient temples, gardens, and the iconic Great Buddha. Visit the colossal bronze statue of the Great Buddha, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, and the Hokokuji Temple bamboo grove.
Nikko (1 hr 50 min from Tokyo)
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Nikko is revered for its ornate shrines, tranquil forests, and majestic waterfalls. Visit the Toshogu Shrine, Nikko National Park, and Kegon Falls.
